L3 Infrastructure Engineer (VMWare, Server, Networking)

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced L3 Infrastructure Engineer with deep expertise across server, virtualization, and networking technologies. This role will serve as a senior escalation point for infrastructure-related incidents, providing advanced troubleshooting, design input, and proactive improvements to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable enterprise operations.

The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Server environments, VMware, and networking technologies (Fortinet, Cisco Meraki, and legacy Cisco), along with exposure to Linux platforms. You will thrive in high-pressure environments, supporting critical infrastructure and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the L3 escalation point for complex infrastructure issues across servers, virtualization, and networking.
• Manage and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows Server environments (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, File/Print services).
• Support and optimize VMware virtualization platforms (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter) for high availability and performance.
• Provide support for Linux-based servers (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu) as needed.
• Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Fortinet firewalls, Cisco Meraki (MX, MS, MR), and legacy Cisco devices (routers, switches, firewalls).
• Lead incident bridge calls for high-severity issues, ensuring rapid service restoration.
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and provide detailed post-incident reports.
• Partner with Problem and Change Management teams to implement proactive solutions.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
• Mentor and provide knowledge transfer to L1/L2 engineers.
• Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams on design, upgrades, and migrations.

Required Skills & Experience

• 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure roles with a focus on servers and networking.
• Microsoft Windows Server (2012/2016/2019/2022) – advanced administration and troubleshooting.
• VMware (vSphere/ESXi/vCenter) – strong virtualization expertise.
• Fortinet firewalls (FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer) – configuration, security, troubleshooting.
• Cisco Meraki (MX, MS, MR) and legacy Cisco routing/switching technologies – advanced support and design knowledge.
• Linux administration experience (preferred, not mandatory).
• Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPN, routing, switching, firewall rules).
• Proven ability to lead and manage Major Incidents (P1/MIM) under pressure.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management).
• Excellent communication, leadership, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications such as VMware VCP, Fortinet NSE, CCNP, Meraki CMSS, or Microsoft MCSE.
• Experience in hybrid cloud or cloud migrations (Azure, AWS).
• Exposure to monitoring and automation tools (ScienceLogic, ServiceNow, SolarWinds, etc.).
